Hotspot Willisau VFR und IFR

Durch seine zentrale Lage ist das WIL VOR ein bevorzugtes Trainings- sowie Prüfungs-Funkfeuer für die General Aviation und ideales Gebiet für die Steig- bzw. Sinkflüge in/aus Richtung der Alpen. Dies führt zu einer hohen Verkehrsdichte sowohl an Sichtflug- (VFR) wie auch Instrumentenflug- (IFR) Verkehr in der Region WIL.

Das WIL VOR liegt zwischen Jura und Alpen, im Zentrum der kreisförmig angesiedelten Flugplätze von Bern, Grenchen, Basel, Zürich, Emmen, Buochs und Alpnach. Es ist weit und breit die einzige konventionelle Navigationshilfe ausserhalb von Kontrollzonen (CTR) und Nahkontrollbezirken (TMA).

Der VFR-Hauptstrom liegt mehrheitlich zwischen 5000 und 7000ft. Die IFR-Flüge befinden sich hauptsächlich zwischen 6000ft und 7000ft auf einem Funkstrahl (Radial) vom und zum WIL VOR, das ein wichtiger „Fix-Punkt“ in den Standard Instrumentenflugverfahren der oben aufgezählten umliegenden Flugplätze ist. Zudem führen die „missed approach procedures“ der umliegenden IFR-Anflüge ebenfalls über das WIL VOR.

Das bedeutet, dass der IFR-VFR Mischverkehr in der Region WIL seine höchste Konzentration zwischen 6000 und 7000ft erreicht.

Deshalb weisen wir darauf hin:

VFR:
• Be aware of possible IFR traffic from and to WIL VOR!
• If possible, stay below 5500ft in WIL area, delay your climb for flights over the alps
• If possible, avoid overflying WIL VOR directly
• If possible, avoid using WIL VOR for simulated IFR and if, then only under conditions according SERA3220

Flight instructors:
• If possible, conduct VFR training and examination flights in WIL area at low altitude (< 5500ft)
• Be aware of IFR procedures when VFR training of radial interceptions from and to WIL VOR

IFR:
• Be aware of possible VFR traffic when departing from/approaching to LSZB, LSZG, LSME/ LSZC!
• Look for information on IFR charts: e.g. CAUTION: Part of the procedure is leading through Airspace Class E. VFR traffic without radio communication and without transponder must be expected.
